Development Driven Green Design
A Green Path from Abercom Commons to Detiny USA
It has been nearly 10 years since CASCO designed and engineered the Circuit City store in Abercom Commons, one of America's 1st LEED Gold Shopping Centers. Many in the industry could not have envisioned the wide acceptance and integration of green design in the built environment.
Today we continue to assist clients in their sustainable design endeavors which are often driven by their desire to locate in a LEED development. We recently celebrated the LEED Silver certification of Brooks Brothers located in Destiny USA. It is the largest LEED Gold-certified commercial retail building in the world. A decade of experience in green design allows our LEED AP's to maintain the tenant's typical design schedule and streamline the certification processes.

Designed to LEED
Price Chopper Supermarkets - Lenox, MA & Marshalls Creek, PA
CASCO designed and engineered two ground-up facilities for Golub Corporation utilizing innovative concepts. The recently opened Price Chopper supermarkets achieve LEED Silver certification.
The full service stores range in size from 50,000 to 60,000 sq. ft. and offer meat and seafood departments; a Central Market Florist; bakery, deli and a coffee shop. Sustainable design features include auto-dimming lights, materials made from recycled content, locally sourced building materials, high-efficiency refrigeration, natural lighting and a cool-roof design.

Government Regulated Sustainable Design
Bridgestone Firestone - Ft. Bliss, TX
Firestone's Ft. Bliss, Texas project was designed for LEED Gold and meets the Department of Defense & Ft. Bliss' AAFES guidelines. We adapted our Bridgestone Firestone prototype to achieve an additional 14% energy savings by modifying the building envelope and lighting systems.
The project earned 50% of its LEED points from the site and 50% from the building. Firestone's LEED compliant roofing material allows for the Heat Island Effect credit. Site lighting meets both LEED and Ft. Bliss' “dark sky” requirements. Existing asphalt paving was recycled and used for site fill. Xera-scape landscaping and the use of native plants saves water.

Eco-Friendly Lodging
Residence Inn - Gainesville, Florida
CASCO received accolades from ECOGREEN HOTEL, a sustainable watchdog group, for our design of OTO Development's 118-suite Residence Inn located in Gainesville, Florida.
Sustainable design elements include brownfield and xeriscape design; 90% post consumer recycled steel; certified cool roofing materials; energy efficient windows; low VOC interior paints, wood finishes, adhesives and sealants; certified green carpet; pool salinization system; low flow fixtures; automatic faucets & toilets in public restrooms; high efficiency transformers and HVAC; LED Exit Signs; CFL and LED Lighting.

CalGreen Design & Engineering
California
CAL Green is a mandatory green building code that includes optional “tiers” for projects seeking to go beyond the minimum level required. While CALGreen is California law, jurisdictions have a wide discretion on how to enforce it.
Our Project Management staff are experienced at unraveling the code and negotiating with city and state officials. CASCO's engineers implement the standards and understand how they effect the building industry in California.

PetSmart - West Babylon, NY
The Town of Babylon, New York requires all new construction to be LEED Certified. CASCO prepared site adapted the PetSmart Prototype to achieve LEED Gold. The facility was designed for a 33% energy use reduction through modifications to the building envelope, high efficency rooftop units and lighting systems.
A 45% reduction in potable water use was achieved through low flow urinals & water closets. Materials and Resources Credits were gained by using recycled products. PetSmart implemented a Construction Indoor Air Quality Management Plan and used low VOC's (volatile organic compounds) in adhesives, sealants, paints and coatings.
