"KIDstruction Week is your chance to join your fellow colleagues to support the mission of St. Louis Children’s Hospital: to do what’s right for kids. It is a simple campaign that asks you to consider a $1 donation to St. Louis Children’s Hospital for every hour worked during the first payroll period in August, KIDstruction Week."
The staff here at Casco decided to join this mission, found on the KIDstruction website. “It’s a good local charity that means a lot to different people in the company. CASCO has a tradition of donating to the hospital at the end of each year,” said Shelby Boeker, Structural Department and CASCO KIDstruction Coordinator. While the KIDstruction program usually lasts a week, CASCO decided to change things up and make it a month-long campaign. The month of August was full of fun, kid-themed activities that encouraged employees to get involved and donate.

During the first week of KIDstruction, we held a bake sale. Employees were asked to donate sweet or savory treats to be sold, with all proceeds going towards our donation.
One of our more popular activities, held during our second week, was our vacation day raffle. $1 would get you one ticket, and one ticket could win you a vacation day. Not many people bought just one.
We had a “Recess” planned for our third week of KIDstruction, but due to inclement weather,
it was replaced with an impromptu snack shop. Soft pretzels and ice cream treats were available for a donation of choice.

The final week of our KIDstruction fundraiser held our biggest event. The office closed early on Friday for a company-wide BBQ. The highlight of the BBQ was the chance to purchase water balloons, one dollar each, to throw at your favorite (or not so favorite) department and project managers.
Along with each weekly event, we had two events going throughout the entire month of August. We held a Penny Wars competition: Each department had a jar placed in the lobby. The goal was to have the highest amount in your jar by the end of the month. Coins, taken at monetary value, count towards your score; however members of other departments could use dollar bills, also taken at monetary value, to sabotage your score.
A five dollar donation on every Friday of the month would allow employees the opportunity to wear jeans to the office. Friday quickly became everyone’s favorite day of the week (as if it wasn’t already).

Altogether, it was a fun month, but even more importantly, it was for an important cause. We exceeded our expectations, raising $5,366 to help the St. Louis Children’s Hospital work towards their goal of giving children healthier and safer lives.
