Presenters were Jerry and Bill from Lawrence Fabric & Metal Structures. In addition to a nice lunch, freebies were provided to all participants. Quite a diversity of fabric is out there for use in architectural applications. We quickly learned that certain fabrics actually help cut down on energy costs. Samples of fabric used on awnings and canopies were passed around to feel the texture and durability. A PowerPoint presentation showed several different projects where fabric and metal awnings, canopies and even exhibits were used not only for protection from the elements but often are decorative as well. Some fabric is durable yet translucent enough to reflect light, providing a beautiful glow to the area. These fabrics can serve as a design element to make a dull room or outdoor gathering spot look like a showroom. So they actually provide more than a simple awning cover. While protecting from the elements, they also can be very pleasing to the eye.
